Building Successful Partners and
Employee-Owners

Steel Encounters was founded in 1985. Our seamless operations across two specialized divisions (steel joist/deck and glass/glazing) ensure that we consistently deliver excellence to our valued customers and building partners.

We are 100% employee-owned as an ESOP company. An Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) is a company-funded retirement plan that gives employees total ownership of their company in the form of stock shares.

Safety is a core value from day one.

At Steel Encounters, we don't see you as just another construction worker!
Your physical safety isn't just a slogan - it's a value at the heart of every action.

  • Safety First, Always: We prioritize safety by providing comprehensive training for all new hires, ensuring a strong foundation and ongoing education to foster a proactive safety culture.

  • Committed to Safety: Steel Encounters prioritizes safety by employing dedicated full-time safety personnel. Our Safety Manager conducts regular on-site risk assessments and works directly with construction teams to identify and address potential hazards.

  • Safety Committee: The safety committee is comprised of safety, quality control, management, field, and project management personnel. The team is driven to promote and maintain worksite safety for our employees through education, training, incident investigation, and free discussion of safety problems and possible solutions.

  •  Job Specific Safety Planning: Our commitment to safety includes a review of each project for specific safety requirements. This review encompasses an evaluation of site conditions, logistics, staging and equipment needs and the identification and establishment of tie-off anchoring to protect our employees.

  • Job Specific Hazard Analysis: Steel Encounters utilizes Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to evaluate and mitigate specific hazards and safety concerns on projects. The JHA is used to ensure a thorough review of operations and to identify and establish controls to protect our workers from injury.

  • Pre Employment Drug and Physical Screening: In addition to selecting the most qualified and professional tradesman, we only allow workers to join our company after passing a pre-employment drug test and pre-employment physical abilities screening.

  • Ongoing Employee Training: Our workers are the best trained in the industry. We include OSHA, specialized equipment, regular assessment and evaluation of current work processes, and employee skills. Additionally, prior to any employee entering a project site they must attend an internal safety class and pass a written test.

  • Toolbox Meetings: Employees attend weekly mandatory “tool box” meetings where specific safety concerns are addressed and training in hazard recognition and mitigation are specifically addressed.

  • Equipment Manufacturer Training: Employees receive training by equipment manufacturers of their authorized representative in the safe operation of specialized equipment used in our operations.

  • OSHA Mandated Training: All employees receive training in all areas mandated by OSHA.

Our excellent safety record reflects the quality of our management, our supervision, and our work force.

It also serves to promote business and thereby contributes to the continuing growth and success of the Company.
