Project Description
The Salt Lake Airport is undergoing a major expansion and transformation, spanning several years. While operational, the airport is being delivered in phases.
Currently, in Phase 2, the airport is adding additional shops and restaurants, as well as additional gates to new destinations. Phase 2 also includes the build-out of Concourse A to the east with 22 gates. Five of the new gates will open in May of 2023 with the remaining gates scheduled to open in the fall/winter of 2023.
Phase 3 includes the opening of the Central Tunnel which connects A and B concourses, as well as a unique art installation called "The River Tunnel" by Artist, Gordon Huether.
In addition, Phase 3 will include the main entry point from the tunnel to Concourse B, which will be a mini-plaza complete with large-scale art installations by Gordon Huether known as The Canyon 2.0 and Northern Light.
A unique aspect happening in Phase 3 includes the relocation of the large world map from Terminal 1 to Concourse B. Since 1961, thousands of passengers have walked around the world by simply passing through Terminal 1 at the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).
